Why is it that the Mod team gets the wrap for constantly having too many rules, and being too strict - then get MORE, when we try to conglomerate common sense rules into another to make sure we have the option to act if needed, but so that nobody gets banned?

So we should put swearing into the rules? And ban someone coming on and getting upset and swearing once? if we make a rule - how would YOU define excessive swearing? (other than clearly not the same as the staff do)

Swearing once, we you are upset and it is in context is not something we expect or want to ban, and certainly do not wish to punish people for.

Going 'why the f**k do you we have a censor, thats f*iing stupid IS offensive, and is exactly the sort of behaviour that is going to convince we to shut the censor up more to punish those who have the attitude of "well I want to swear so sod the site, i'll use an acccent and swear anyway, because I know better. Unnessesary use of words that can offend shows a complete dispresect and disregard for anyone who might feel differently to your own liberal views - and you don't care if they are your age, a parent, teacher, journalist from a newspaper or an 11 girl.

It is really, really simple. RYL can CHOOSE to be either a responsible place where respect and decency is upheld, or it can have the attitude that we don't give a damn about members, sensitive, offendable or otherwise.

I really honestly find it amazing that a few people can say it is unfair for their wishes to be taken at less value than the wishes of the rest of the community and those who run it.

You actually want RYL to give you the right to do what you want, when that thing you want negatively affects far more people than a non censored RYL full of course words would?

If it is wanted, we will most certainly put in a rule that specifically says swearing, getting around the censors or attempting to is against the rules - but we don't make rules we don't uphold... so are you really sure this is actually what you want?

Honestly, would you send your children to a school that allowed and encouraged swearing, over one that tried to bring kids up properly? If you were a teacher and wanted to give a child advice - would you send them to a website full of swear words, or one that took a difference approach? If you were a journalist and you were writing and article on "The responsibility of Internet Communities", something that is very hot in the news with this suicide stuff - would you have the same opinions about a site without censors and one that does? If you were a parent who had lost a child who was a member of this site - would you be more likely to accuse the site if it took a lax attitude rather than a responsible one? These are the things I have to think about when I decide such things - not just 'whether i'd like to be able to say what I want'

I should just set the censor to swap all swear words for "I don't have a large enough vocabulary" and see how long people think swearing makes them look clever then.

There is no swear word in existance that can't be swapped for other words - except of course for the 'offence factor' - so seriously, stop complaining and go learn some new words. There are only 5 of the most crude swear words censored at all! If you need to use those 5 words more than ten times in a row, then you seriously need to learn some new words.

I am sorry to be harsh and whatever in this thread - but far too often at RYL I see a few people who have their own hard and fast rules and attitude wanting to force those views on everyone else, regardless of what anyone else might want and what is best for the overall community.

Realistically, we will probably remove the default setting in chat for booting people for swearing ten times in chat - mainly because of PM's.

However I find it very likely we might then replace it with a seperate rule as it is pointed out that we are currently 'missing' one - which will mean anyone trying to get around the censors will be getting infraction points, and could therefore lose all access to RYL for doing it, rather than the maximum punishment of a 30 minute kick as we have now.

I trust these two outcomes are exactly what you were looking for since they have been asked for?
