'we'll only do something if it requires no effort or we get a reward from it... '
this is actually true of the majority if not all of us. everything is selfishly motivated, if it involves effort we only do it if there is a reward in sight, e.g a material possession of some sort, a feeling of self fulfillment/ satisfication, or reassurance that you are a good/exciting/conscientious/whatever person.
