Obviously I don't know the exact situation, but don't worry about causing some fuss if you're sure this is what you need to move on.
You will never be a 'fixed' child if you leave something important undone. I understand that you want to protect your parents from further upset, but they will understand and help you through this. If they don't think you should go ahead with this then they will talk you through the why's and why nots.
Why don't you print this thread and show them? That way you wont have to try and find the right words, and you'll get it all out in the open.
