Don't forget that opiate users are given syringes and needles etc due to the spread and danger to health from HIV and AIDS. The Government decided that AIDS was a higher risk to human health than the problem of taking and injecting the drugs. I have been supplied with tubigrips and gauze and other first aid equipment from the mental health day centre. It depends on who you know. I am never without sharps even though I have not self harmed for awhile I still keep them. I never throw them away unless used. I always use a new one and don't recycle that is just common sense. Maybe one day I will be able to throw them away and live without them. People are going to self harm whether there are blades available through a nurse or at the local boots. Surely better coping mechanisms should be encouraged just like the CBT I do with my CPN.
