Doesn't congenital syphilis mean that it's present at birth, passed to the child from a mother who has the condition whilst pregnant? It's congenital not hereditary, so couldn't really be 'on your mum's side' in a way that a hereditary condition could be. I guess if someone had congenital syphilis and never got it treated then had a baby then several generations could have it and it might look hereditary, but that seems very unlikely!
If you are worried you could speak to a doctor and have an STD test to put your mind at rest about this and the gonorrhoea.
