This has happened to me. I was 'diagnosed' with bpd when I was 18, mainly due to my psych knowing I self harmed. Even when I would explain something else is going on, I was told this is what I had and it went on all of my papers. Cue two years of me having cycling moods where I'd get a lot done and would not stop talking, then landed myself in such a depression that I wouldn't leave my bed. I was hospitalized and I made sure I was in a hospital that my psych was not a part of so she couldn't be able to interfere (I am in the US and I don't know if you are, so I am not sure if it works this way any where else). After a week of testing and talk therapy, I was told I meet the criteria for bipolar ll disorder and major depression disorder. The psych at the hospital was angry that I fell under the bpd profile for so long which left me without proper treatment for two years.
Are you able to change doctors, especially for a second opinion? This is a hard situation to be in, and I am sorry you're going through it.
