Yeah when viewing the forums on an iPhone images can get all mixed up. Peoples avatars can appear in signatures, I one has the "report" button image replace the ryl banner on top of the site, it can really play up with images.
So it's unlikely anyone would see the old smileys had actually changed. Maybe even if you go back to them they'll be as normal.
I found the avatars moving to different spots annoying so I have turned them off completely (same with signatures).
