Hi Brian

I'm so sorry to hear about your job and that you're feeling so low at the moment.

I don't think the loss of the job is any reflection on your capabilities - you say you've known it's been on the rocks for some time. Unfortunately, there are so many factors outside of our control at the moment (economy etc) that it's probably not about you but the company for which you worked. Please don't doubt yourself or dwell on it. It's a buyers' market and you have a degree so you are well placed to find something bigger and better, even it it doesn't initially allow you to use your degree and means you may have to relocate. I know it's hard to see this at this time but try to see this as a chance to change yours and your family's lives for the better. This change will bring you new opportunities.

Sometimes not being able to sell yourself isn't a bad thing - any decent employer will know that interviews etc are not everything: you have a proven track record. People who are great at selling themselves are often all bluster.

Please tell your wife how you are really feeling and give her an opportunity to help and support you. You'd want to know if she were feeling this way I'm sure. Please also reach out to other sources of support. You are not defined by your job. You are a father, husband and so much more and you are much loved.

I hope that this doesn't come over as overly flippant or blasé as that's not my intention. I know it's hard to focus on positives when things seem so bleak. Please try and shift your focus to the chances that this brings.

Take care
