I spent over a year in a forensic secure psych unit (people with illnesses who had committed fairly serious crimes) and I'm not kidding, a very high percentage of those patients (everyone on my ward at least) were drug users before they were sent to prison/the hospital. I don't think that's a coincidence.
Not everyone goes crazy on drugs, but if you have pre-existing issues, then the chance that it will have a negative effect on you is greater. A chance that is really not worth taking. It would be far better to try and find someone that you can talk through your problems with.
