But, LoneliestGirl, they are already their own separate country in many senses of the word. If your average Scot is asked in some country elsewhere in the world where he/she is from they are most unlikely to answer "UK"; instead the reply will almost certainly be "Scotland". And the vast majority of those asking will accept that as a fair and reasonable answer without feeling that they should add "but surely you should be independent and free of the tyranny of Westminster?" - they recognise Scotland as a separate country but within the United Kingdom. We are all united, and hopefully will remain so ...
