I don't have TBI but have some sort of dissociative amnesia/just quite poor memory and therefore don't remember a lot of my life events either. Like you, I still hold those memories in an emotional/unconscious/bodily way. I thought for a long time that I had to be able to remember things in order to process them by talking about them. I have since discovered that skilled therapists can help you to come to terms with things without having to have a narrative about the events. Sometimes this comes from being able to talk about things that you're feeling and experiencing 'in the moment'.

Do you keep diaries much? Sometimes it helps me to write about how I'm feeling at the present time and go back to it later (when I am likely to have forgotten). Art or music can also be an outlet and a form of journalling how you are from one moment to the next (if you are able to record the music). You could also keep video diaries. (I'm sorry, I don't know much about TBI and am not sure if it would be possible for you).
