I am currently:

Some medications are good some are bad. Yes, there's ones that I regret trying (like one that made me gain a lot of weight) but there's also the one I'm on now which makes my life bearable, and I don't think I'd cope without.

Those risks and side effects you've mentioned are incredibly rare, and hardly ever happen. Yes, it is a risk, but it might make your life a lot happier. Your doctor clearly thinks it's a good idea, but if you don't you're an adult so you are free to make your own choices. I would strongly suggest you give it a go. Like Kate says, the risks are usually associated with long-term use.

You could spend the rest of your life in a mental hospital, but why would you want that? Yes, things are bad now, but that doesn't mean they will always be.

You said that these are normal moods, but they seem to be having a big impact on your life and your quality of life. Most people, I think, have a fairly stable, happy mood, so perhaps it would be worth thinking about trying this medication and seeing if you can find a slightly more stable mood?

It doesn't matter where you come from; it matters where you go.
No-one gets remembered for the things they didn't do.
We won't all be here this time next year,
so while you can take a picture of us.
We're definitely going to hell,
but we'll have all the best stories to tell.
