Alot of people respond to medication but a small minority do not respond to any medication or there problems/issues can't be solved through medication only talking therapy or talking with someone with what's going on. If things persist maybe you can go back to your gp and say talking isn't really helping. Had your gp referred you to talking therapy?
He might also not want to give you things to calm you and help you sleep as they are usually quite addictive. And you depend on them alot!
Could you write things down to show your counsellor so when you can't say what your feeling you can show them?
