Hey there,

Depression doesn't need to have a cause. Whilst it's definitely true that some people become depressed as a result of abuse or trauma (or indeed another indentifiable reason), people can become depressed without a "reason" and that's OK. Depression is a mental illness, and so as an illness can be like any physical illness; there needn't have been a cause, it may just have "happened".

For some people though, there is an underlying physical cause; such as thyroid problems, nutrient deficiencies or in rare cases, depression can be a symptom of a more complex condition.

What ever the cause - or lack of - that doesn't negate the pain that depression can cause for a person and you're entitled to support and advice, just as much as the next person.

Have you considered seeking help for how you're feeling? Perhaps trying to speak to a doctor or someone at school (that's if you're still a student)?
