Most people use starting university as a way to try new things, so there will be a lot of people who have never done it before, and for the first few weeks they may split people up into the beginners and the more experienced. During Freshers' Week there is normally a clubs and societies fayre, where you can go along and meet the people from the groups and ask questions.
(Completely off-topic, but why do you spell uni as all-capitals? You aren't the only person I've seen do it, and I've never been able to work out why it's done.)
