I have type 2 diabetis and it led to a huge lifestyle change for me as far as eating goes but I still need medication for it. It was caused by too much weight and ironically the diabetes was made worse by mental health medication!
However even people who are diagnosed with type 1 diabetis often also have to make lifestyle changes. I remember a ten year old being diagnosed and even she had to make changes. It's not as simple as just increasing the amount of insulin you take to counteract what you eat but if you have grown up with it I can see how you might think that, Fry. Sometimes medication has to be tweaked with type 2 as well because your pancreas can gradually produce less insulin. That's why i and everyone else with it gets regular blood tests. On the other hand some people manage to reduce their sugar intake to a level their pancreas can cope with and no longer need the medication. A lot of what happens in type 2 depends both on the person and what the pancreas itself decides to do. Some people with type 2 end up on insulin but I hope not to be one of them. I know numbers are not allowed so I won't say how much but I lost loads of weight just by eating more healthily ;>) -- but I still need the medication 'cos of my lazy pancreas.
