I was around when Vets was split and at the time there were alot more vets and support posts were being lost among the more general thing so the split to general and support was to stop posts being lost. Alot of the vets around then have left and there isn't as many.
I think if you merge vets back into the general population that most of the vets will leave. I know I can't stand posting in serious discussion because alot of the posts strike me as almost whiney and it annoys me. So I ignore that forum. I stick to vets and occasionaly general.
Why merge it? It's not hurting anyone. I can't remember when vets was ever not there. And I don't see how having it as a sub section under something else like Abuse and bullying would be much different then what it is now?
I fail to see the point of merging it back, unless you actually want older members to leave. other than that... what is the point?
