I'm coming back to this idea because I want to talk about philosophy and all that sh1t. Since a formal debate is too much to coordinate, as an alternative what would you think of having weekly/ bi-weekly debates in the News/ Debate forum? I, or whoever hosts the debate for the week, would summarise the topic and a few of the basic tenets of each position on the topic. They would post the rules for the debate in the first post as well.
As for the conversation itself, there would be little formal structure. Participants in their first post would have to contribute something. (So jumping in to say "ur a dumbass" would not be allowed. After voicing their own opinions, participants could ask specific questions to other members or offer counter-arguments to their argument. Everything would be kept civil.
Eh, I can write out more rulez if people are willing to join in on the debates. :)
