You'll probably end up lucky losing the guy. The mum marrying outsider thing is worse. A steppy is the worst. If I had kids I would never put them through a steppy. That said, if you calm yet not accepting you can preserve yourself and not give others an excuse to see you as the problem. If you just look snotty and belligerent they have an excuse to dismiss you - don't give it to them.
