I think if you have the urge to tell somebody about your sh (and it is definitely a good first step to tackle your problems!), then choose one person that you can trust and who can help you! You thought about telling your mother, and if you have a good relationship with her than she would probably be one of the best choices. Also think about what you want to achieve by telling somebody - do you want help, or just someone to talk to? Do you just want somebody to share your secret?
Of course if you want to you can tell everybody, but I think it is the easiest to first start with one person and then see how it goes.
