I am currently:
I have pretty bad scars, some of them are from getting stitches. my left arm is covered and the right is catching up awful quickly...so you are definitely not alone with having terrible scars...

I hurt myself before others get the chance...
I hurt myself because others hurt me and I can't stand the pain...
To tell the truth, I'm afraid of recovery because it means I have to let go...
