Sounds to me like your reaction was pretty understandable. Sometimes it's the little things that hurt the most and it's made even worse when people don't understand what all the fuss is about. Your reaction was maybe not the most helpful, and I'm sure the woman at customer services was just trying to help, but I don't think that what she said was OK. It was clearly a big deal to you.
I don't have anything particularly useful to say (!) but just wanted you to know that others (me definitely included) would probably have acted the same.
