I remember it like it was yesterday.
I was on a family holiday in Florida at the time. We were pulling up to somewhere for breakfas when it came on the radio. When we went in to the resturant, they didnt know anything about it. We mentioned it to the waitress an she put the news on the tv.
Everybody just stopped and stared.
Then the second plane hit. The restrant was quiet. One of the waitress went to phone her son in New York. People where crying. It was really immense.
Later on there where just crowds of people around. All the parks and shopping centres had closed as Bush was in Florida and it was a huge risk.
People looked lost.
By afternoon there where loads of blood banks open everywhere. Signs outside of shops had messages on them. The news where showing pictures of missing people.
Im not American but I remember watching Bush make his speech. You couldnt get through on the phones for 3 days as they where all jammed.
It still brings a tear to my eyes now. None of them people deserved what happened.
My thoughts are with all of New York today. And to anybody who lost somebody in that terrible day. And to the emergency services who fought to help.
EDIT: that video sends shivers up my spine.
