My family in Rockie had to get moved due to the floods.
One of my cousins ended up getting airlifted to Gladstone hospital in the middle of the flooding with pressure behind the eye and headache symptoms - they had to send her to Gladstone because Rockie was out of commission.
My parents have two units in Brisbane that they rent out - one was completely gutted. My dad drove down there on Tuesday (18/01/11) to help the live-in manager to gut the unit block and clean the place up. He drives back today. They were hoping to pull up all the carpets and get rid of as much of the muck as possible. Thankfully the tenants there were able to collect all their personal stuff and only sacrificed their furniture - although that would have cost them money. It also means that their lease has been declared void which means my parents no longer have tenants. No money coming in to pay for the repairs, massive costs to repair the place, inadequate funds etc. causes massive costs to repair the place but at least no-one is seriously injured.
My friend in Toowoomba was fortunate enough not to be affected and volunteered with fence building and other activities in places that were affected.
I guess that the best answer is that although financially hit everyone is okay and that is what matters the most.
