I don't think psychiatric evaluations go on for a few weeks. I think it's more of a few hours in a day type deal, and if they assess that you need psychiatric help, they put something in place for you.
The best I can recommend is go back to see your GP, tell him you are serious about finding a psychiatrist who will do in-depth testing. Ask him if he has any referrals. If he does not meet your expectations, you may have to do some searching for a psychiatrist on your own without the help of your GP.
