Hey, I have BPD too and hallucinations, but I'm told they're past of something else going on in my brain.
As Kat says, stress can trigger them, as can things like alcohol. Mine are always worse when I'm anxious, or in a state where I'm less able to reason that they're not real.
Your psych sounds really, well, blunt (but that's not really the right word!). Technically they ARE in your head, but they're experienced physically/visually/aurally.
