They're still at it where I work now, but not quite so abrupt, and I usually ask them what they want. Like, put it in words. With please would be nice.
I get people like that alot. Today I had a guy come in who said "map" I told him we didn't sell maps, so he said "where" so I told him he might get one from the tourist information centre and told him where that was he then said "what about post office" so I directed him to the post office, he looked at me for a bit then said "Yes I know where the post office is, is it open?" how was I supposed to know he meant that!
I work in a card shop and often get people coming in who say "I want a card" like they expect me to know what type of card they want.
