Good advice from all above - a big part of choosing a uni should be based on which uni's are best for the course your planning to do. For example, i applied for university of surrey, because its chemistry course is approved by employers and has high employment rates and all courses involve a placement year to gain experience (and earn a bit of cash before the final year).
In the end I swapped to biomedical sciences, but its just as good and im having a blast. The campus is smaller than most unis, so you get to know people really easily. You can pop to the library/shop/laundrette etc and you'll always see someone you know. Its a really pretty campus too. Only drawback would be that Guildford is pretty pricey, both in the fact theres no cheepy shops (no primark, matalan, or peacocks!), and looking at renting houses for the second year.
