Yes they can. If you're in the UK there's a new part of the Mental Health Act which says they can do this.
Do you mind me asking what your diagnosis is? If you struggle taking tablets there are some medications you can have injected. I can't take mine because I get worried that they've been tampered with and my memory is terrible. I have an injection every two weeks instead, it's much better :)
