Ah, it can be tough. Well done, though, on wanting to make this step - and for being free for so long!
You say you still carry it around. How about leaving it at home, in an out-of-the-way place? You'll know where it is, but you won't have access to it all the time - and since you've been free for so long and sound really committed, I think you'll notice you don't need to have it with you all that much. Do you think that could work?
When at some point you feel ready to really let go of it, I suggest telling someone about it - what about your friend who got rid of the rest of your tools? That way you have some support with it, and someone to celebrate with afterwards, which I strongly recommend.
It's a big step, but definitely a good one.
