Your DLA won't be stopped automatically as it is unrelated to working and income - and will help you with what you are entitled to in regard to tax credits. Working may trigger a reassessment of your entitlement but you won't automatically lose it just because you have a job.
I worked for over two years, full time and recieved DLA without any problem at all. I applied when working and was able to arrange care/support needed at work, according to my needs on the form (which were physical not mental) You will need to make sure any work you do won't be in conflict with your original DLA application.
CAB/Disability advisor can advise on other things as well like return to work bonuses (whatever they are called these days!!) and also access to work as well.
