I dropped out of college and went back I hadn't had a long break but it was a bit weird suddenly saying 'yeah I wanna be a nurse' after saying I wanted to be many many other very different things. I'm glad I did though.
Try not to worry about the reactions of others it's weird that we expect people at 16 to know what they want to do with the rest of their lives not weird for you to change your mind later on.
In an emergency I personally would value a paramedic who had thought about their career long and hard and had a bit of life experience looking after me/my loved ones.
