You do need to take in food and so something like icecream would be fine and just look after it as your piercer said. The reason why the one you have in now is so big is in case of the swelling so it is allowed to swell and the bar doesn't potentially get stuck inside it which would cause further problems. Only once it's healed can you then change the bar and the piercer should have given you information on the aftercare and on ther it should've given a rough time of when it should be healed.

You do need to take something in. Ibuprofen, so long as you have no other problems that are against it's use can take down the swelling HOWEVER, this may not be appropriate as you HAVE to eat with that to make sure your stomach wall is coated and protected. Ice cubes will also be a good thing to suck on and they will help reduce the swelling. Paracetamol can also help with the pain and given that it may be difficult for you to eat, in terms of the pain that may be your best option right now but that won't really take down the swelling. Again, only take it if there is no reason in the leaflet to suggest you can and take it as described in that.

But yep, you definately have to take in some nutrients and also drink. Cold drinks would soothe it better than hot and to take in food soft things would be beter than hard/ chewy things which means your tongue has to work harder so things like soup as others have said would be a good idea.

Also, at the moment, however tempting it is, DO NOT play with it. It's best never to really because as the above user says, it can cause tooth breakage easily. But yeah, at the moment it will cause the swelling to increase and healing to take much longer.

If you find the swelling increases and your tongue starts to get really big and it's reducing the amount you can breathe (which is very unlikely o happen but is always a risk with tongue piercings) then go straight to A&E/ the ER.

Also, unless you have to don't remove the bar until it has fully healed in case it does get infected. Also, it is a good idea that the first time it gets changed you get a piercer to do it. This is extremely important if you're not totally sure about what you're doing.
