Sometimes people dont know how to deal with \ approach \ help. It sounds like he obviously cares though as to go through such great lengths to see that you stop hurting yourself. Although i do agree, its a bit harsh and definately crossing the line to say he would beat the crap out of you.
Although since you guys care about each other, maybe write him a note saying how you feel? that its not easy to stop but you want to try and youd like to have his support?
