That early in a child's development, it is imperative that they receive the correct diet to enable them to develop properly. I know that knowadays there are lots of alternatives to meat that can provide protein but the fact is that it's a lot harder to get the same levels of protein from a vegetarian diet than by feeding them meat. With proteins so much more important early on as it fuels growth, I don't see it is simply a case "I'll feed my child weeds until he's old enough to know reason" as it will be healthier for them to ensure they get the right amounts of the right sorts of proteins and actually grow and develop properly.
