I am currently:

Codeine is a narcotic. In the US is it a schedule II drug when it is not combined with another pain killer (ibuprofen, acetaminophen/paracetamol). I'm not sure about where you are. But that makes having it a potential felony.

It's very addictive. It is in the same class as heroin and heroin is a very addictive drug. The withdrawals are nasty, painful, and super depressing. And, trust me, if you start using it as a recreational drug you're bound to use it by yourself because of the effects it has on you mentally and physically, especially if you're suffering from depression/stress already.

I really don't recommend an opiate or opioid to be used as a recreational drug. I've had a, I guess you can say, a mild addiction to an opioid for six or seven years and trust me when I say it came out of no where, it started as recreational use, and it is hell when I have to go without. I can't sleep, I can't stay asleep (I do have insomnia but this is a different kind of unable to sleep thing), I am stressed, bitchy, physically uncomfortable, I don't feel as though I can handle anything mentally. In short, it's horrible, and it comes on fast.

Although I'm also against most drug use so don't take this as a "don't take codeine, go off and do something else!" type of reply. I'm really just trying to be honest about it all.
