I was in a reasonably normal phase and Femodene made me constantly tearful, suicidal and very destructive, and I couldn't figure why until I changed pills for different reasons (it was about a week or so afterwards that everything suddenly felt better). Also generally when birth control pills come up in girly conversations, most people seem to know at least one person who had mood effects from them. Sometimes it takes swapping a couple of times to find a good one for you.
Is ortho-triclen a "mini-pill"? If not, you might want to try asking for Yasmin as a replacement as that's supposedly a fairly new pill with less side-effects than most. It made me nauseous for the first month or two, but was absolutely fine after that.
