Catteries and Kennels are often busy this time of year and can use all the help they can get. I wanted to volunteer at my local cattery but there were already enough people.
Also, I'm not sure if this is a possibility but you may be able to visit children in hospital, bring some treats, some fun, brighten up their holidays. I'm guessing that would take a while to organise though.
