Right, I don't think guidelines are totally necessary but I think people must try and see things from both sides of the coin as it were before they make a thread o they can ensure that it will not turn out like the post is an attack on a person/ group of people. Also, people should realise that everyone will have different views whether just differ slightly or are on the other side ofthe spectrum and instead of those just being dismissed people should try to understand where they are coming from. As well as that people should make sure their post isnt written in a way suggesting my opinion is right, everyone with a different thought trail is therefore wrong and not actually properly reading through or attempting to grasp the other people's points of view.
A lot can be gained from debates but that is only if everyone is prepared to look at it from both sides and realise not everyone will agree and that some people do have some sensitivities. And also, people should only make a comment if they are prepared to at least check back and see if there is anything regarding that. If people make a post and then say at the end I won't come back on here so I won't see what happens then to me that seems like that person does not want to pay attention to anyone elses views and isn't prepared to question their own and what is the point in being part of a debate by one post but not seeing the outcome? If they felt strong enough about their debate to want to make a contribution then surely they must want to see what happens?
