St. Johns wort is hit or miss, some people says it helps them, others say it doesn't. It totally depends on your issues though. THE ONLY THING St. Johns wort has been shown to have any affect what so ever in was mild depression.

The vitamin B complex for depression idea was busted after several studies, it had no more affect than a placebo. Pretty much the same thing with fruit/foods.

However, eating a balanced diet can help, and here is why. If you don't eat healthy foods and your body is constantly starving and then getting loaded up on sugar it can really mess with your internal balance for everything, including mood. So eating a specific food may not suddenly make you feel better, but eating a healthy, balanced diet can help to a point.
