Ah mate, I adore Joyce. He's one of my top three writers (and I read a hell of a lot haha!) My personal favourite is 'Portrait of the artist as a young man' but 'Dubliners' seems a lot more accessible as it's basically just a series of vignettes almost..

I've never actually finished Ulysses despite having started it at least 5 times. It's brilliantly written and constructed with many different layers but pretty complex, maybe 6th time will be a charm :D
