I was in a residential DBT place. Have been twice actually, to two different places.
The first time I did DBT, it really didn't do anything for me. I found it really confusing and I was too depressed to do any of the skills.
The second place I went to I put a lot of effort into the DBT and it had a positive effect, I didn't self harm for nine months and was getting better.
I'm still doing DBT now but on an outpatient basis, and it's not working as well as it did in IP.
There are four modules- Mindfulness, Distress Tolerance, Interpersonal Effectiveness and Emotion Regulation.

One of the main principles of DBT is accepting yourself as you but recognising you need to change. You have to agree to stop all "therapy interfering" behaviours such as drug taking/self harm/suicide attempts, and you fill in diary cards every day rating your emotions and what skills you used.
