I also find playing with play-dough to be helpful when I have urges too, and it is something you can do when the family is over, so you don't look too silly.

they do take a while to heal, and ususually never completely go away. you can use scar creams, which will smooth out the skin & hopefully make it less noticeable.

no peroxide. never. just gently wash w/ soap & water. put lots of antibacterial cream on it to keep the scap soft, so it doesnt crack. no stick gauze. change the dressing every two days.
