Delaying Periods...

I've gone through about 5 different boards before deciding to post here so I hope this is the right place now!

Basically, my partner is coming over and staying from Thursday night through to Sunday evening; it's the first time we'll have had some real 'alone' time for...well, a long time!

Problem is I was due my period last Friday but it's yet to come so I'm worried that I'll be on while he's here, which obviously I don't want!

Now, I have the contraceptive pill 'Microgynon' (take for 3 weeks then take a week off) which I'm wondering if I can use to delay my period? If it's not going to work I might as well save it and take it when I'm supposed to and try to find something else!

Can anybody offer any advice?

If you haven't already stopped taking the pill then you can carry on taking it perfectly healthily until you want your period, however if you were supposed to have it hpwever if you've already stopped I don't think restarting it will work. Don't have any other suggestions though, sorry.

I was on microgynon for years. Its fab at moving your periods around, though you shouldn't do it too often!

When you stopped taking it, you should be off it for 7days, so regardless on whether you had a bleed or not, once those 7days are up, you start it again. Not everyone has a bleed each month, though they do advise if you have been having regular bleeds on it previously and then miss two bleeds to check with your gp. I used to bleed on it but after a few years I went down to only 2/3 days of spotting - no complaints there!

Anyhoo, so if you're period still hasn't shown up, you can start taking the pill again and then stop after 21days. If you don't have a bleed on that break then you should go see your gp.

If you have started to show signs that you're about to come on though, I wouldn't advise starting the pill up again (unless you've had your 7days break already) as it may confuse the hell out of your body.

Hope that makes sense. Good luck!

i read that the only reason you have a 7 day break and therefore a withdrawal bleed is because when the pill first came about women worried about being pregnant so they built in a 7 day break just so women knew they weren't pregnant and could be reassured by getting their bleed.

i know dr's reccomend if you're going to do it, that you don't take more than 3 packs at a time, which is called tricycling but levels are much lower in modern pills than when it was first made, and i think the 12 week rule is just so you clear out your old dead cells in the womb and keep everything healthy. i don't know if taking more than one pack would make the eventual withdrawal bleed heavier or last longer due to it building up....

hope it works, have fun mand x
