Dissociative Disorder NOS
 

I took a series of tests (such as MMPI, Rorschach) and got my results back today. One of the diagnoses.. well not really a definitive diagnosis.. was Dissociative Disorder NOS.

My results sheet said "Rule Out: Dissociative Disorder NOS."

Well, I have no idea what it means. I googled it and searched these forums, but I still don't understand it.

Does anyone here have it or can tell me more about it?

Hogod. Let's see how much of my own research I can remember.

Basically, there's several dissociative disorders.

Dissociative fugue (randomly deciding to leave your life behind, moving far away, possibly even going as far as burning your house down, stuff like that).
Depersonalisation disorder. Er. Can't think how to describe that :thumbup: Think it can feel like an out of body experience?
Dissociative conversion disorder. 'Patients exhibit unusual or dramatic physical symptoms, such as seizures, amnesia, trance, loss of sensation, visual disturbances, paralysis, aphonia, identity confusion and ‘possession’ states. There is no evidence that the patient is intentionally producing the symptom'
Dissociative amnesia. Dissociating and not remembering what happened
Dissociative Identity Disorder. Formerly Multiple Personality Disorder. Very basically, is like several people in one body.

Dissociative Disorder Not Otherwise Specified is when the patient exhibits definite dissociation, but the symptoms don't fall into one particular category. Can't be accurately diagnosed with any of the above, but definitely has some sort of dissociative disorder. So a diagnosis of DDNOS is given instead.

I don't think I've ever really dissociated, so I don't really know why she added this as a rule out. I guess she thinks I might of been dissociating some how when I was becoming really anxious and seeing shapes around my apartment.

And hmm, I dunno really. I don't even know if I actually dissociate (although few people have said that I might o.O), so yeah, can't really offer my opinion on that I'm afraid. I presume you could ask her for more info/clarification next time you see her, yes?

It said "rule out dissociative disorder NOS?" wouldn't that mean you don't have it? Sorry, I'm a bit confused.

Rule out like.. it needs to be ruled out. Keep an eye on whether or not I have it.

I have Depersonalisation disorder. It's a bugger lol.
"Depersonalization is a state in which the individual ceases to perceive the reality of the self or the environment. The patient feels that his or her body is unreal, is changing, or is dissolving; or that he or she is outside of the body."

I hope you get help for it if you do have a dissociative disorder *hugs*
