Why can't you use the more smiley option in your journal?
 

It's really annoying me as I like to use my journal alot (it's really helpful) I also like making it more fun and intresting with smileys but I've noticed you use the extra smileys option in advanced post but not in journals. It's really irritating and there is not much choice at side and lots in the page with the extra bit.

Why is this? Is it just me?

Is there anything I can do?

I haven't tried this out because I don't have a journal, but it might work.
Try keeping the page with all the smileys open while you're writing in your journal, then when you want to add a smiley, look for the text next to it and put that in your journal instead. If the journal works the same way as the forums, the text will turn into the smiley when you post it (or preview it)
