Reporting PMs?
 

I made a thread yesterday asking how to minimise any damage I do whilst cutting myself. I just got a PM which was basically tip sharing and therefore against the rules. Is there anything I can do about this?

Send it onto a mod.

Im asumming it was a Mod that Pm'd you, if you feel that you where not tip sharing, or it was accidental, your best bet it to pm that Mod back and discuss it with them.

I've read the thread you are talking about and i can see why you were told that. This is a support community and therefore no members can share tips with each other, which was basically what you were asking for - tips to minimise damage.

I know I did. But I wasn't asking for tips like the one I was pm'd.

To be honest, unless that PM sounded nasty, I doubt the user intended it like that. You asked a question, they answered, right?

If the mods dont have a problem with the thread then its fine, so im assuming it wasnt a mod, best thing to do is contact a mod about it :)

It wasn't anything nasty, but the user was method sharing.

Then if it wasn't intended badly, I'd just remind them that they shouldn't be tip-sharing. Taking action against them just seems like they've done something on purpose, which it doesn't sound like they have.

You don't have to listen to me, though, of course. :)

I'm confused, did the member PM you telling you that you were tip sharing, or did they PM you with an anwser to the question and tip share in the process?

They tip shared.

Ah, ok then. If it seems like an accident, or was very small, you could prolly just PM the member and remind them it is against the rules. If what they said was a really big deal, forward the PM to a mod.

Forward the PM on to me and I will get the Mods to discuss it with me.

However, we don't automatically act on something just because it has been complained about, as there are two sides to every story. Unless PM's are being sent that are deliberately bullying or abusive, or were very serious in terms of sexual content or soemthing, we are likely not to act as I dbelieve Private Messages should remain just that, Private.

One persons advice can be another persons tip sharing, so I expect that the Mod team or I will speak with the member and nudge them to ease it on their PMs :)

If you felt it nessesary to not get any more PM's etc from that member there is also the ignore feature.

Just to add to what Harley has said, we don't usually give infractions or anything if the tip-sharing was unintentional. It sounds like all that person needs is a reminder.
