Hairloss *excuse the rant, help needed*

I didn't really know where to put this, so feel free to move this to a more suitable place.

I would put this in the ED board, but I'm not entirely sure if it actually is ED related hairloss.

I've been in recovery for my ED for a few months now, but my hair is falling out like crazy now; whenever I run my fingers through my hair, quite a few hairs fall out. My bedroom floor is covered in hair that's fallen out and I sweep it up practically everyday. I've been a vegetarian since the beginning of the year, and so due to the hairloss my mum is trying to force me to eat meat again.

I think I should also mention I'm kind of obsessive compulsive and so shower alot everyday and when I'm feeling stressed I do pull at my hair.

Any advice or anything really would be nice, and much appreaciated, I have social phobias as it is and I really don't want to start college in September with barely any hair at all.

Thier could be underlying causes for it, such as stress. What about taking vitamin supplaments?

You really have to go to the doctor becasue like i say there could be an underlying problem that may need to get sorted.

It might be a good idea to take some iron/vitamin supplements, as bleeding_angel has said, and are you speaking to any sort of professional (like a counsellor, psychologist) about what you're gonig through? Sounds as though you're incredibly stressed - a factor for hairloss in itself - and that talking to someone would help. Also I recommened if you are really concerned to speak to your doctor.

Maybe you could try and focus on the anxiety around your obsessive-compulsiveness and see if you could reduce the amount of times you shower? As you might be weakening the hair. Try deep breathing or mindfulness (focussing on one object) when you get anxious and start with baby steps.. prolong a shower, then shortern one, then skip one, etc.

Best Wishes

Thanks for the help, and also moving the thread Aimee.
At the moment I'm taking Perfectil for hair and nails, and trying to eat as healthily as possible. I see a psychologist and psyciatric nurse, that reminds me, I'm on 20mg of Prozac at the moment so I think that may contributing to the problem.
Thanks again you two, I think I'll try and de-stress first.
Take care x

There are many posible causes for the hairloss. Are you worrying about college? as this can also put extra stress on you. Stress is one of the most likly causes for the hairloss.
Did you start on the prozac recently?
Your best option realy is to speak to your doctor regarding it. They wil then be able to examine you and possibly run a few blood tests just to ensure that there are no hidden causes behind the hair loss.

Take care

Well to be honest I'm worrying about most things at the moment, I've been having really surreal nightmares for the past few weeks. I started taking prozac 10mg during March, I think I started taking 20mg around May.
The annoying thing is is that my dad is a GP, and he knows that my hair is falling out but he won't do anything about it. I don't know, maybe it's not "serious" enough yet to be treated. *shrugs*
Thanks for replying.

There is very little treatment for it i am afraid.
Perhaps you could discusse the issues with your own GP, who will have an unbiased opionion.

hair loss isn't listed as a side-efect of Prozac.
that doesn't necessarily mean it's impossible for that to be the cause, but it must rate as very unlikely.
