Needing help with my glass jewellery- small questionaire :)
 

Hey everyone

I am currently trying to work out pricing for work that i am wanting to sell at an exhibition we are having as part of assessment at uni.

I've been looking around at findings and trying to find the cheapest way to buy everything i need without breaking my bank account as they may not sell.

All the pendants will be 3cm x 3cm square at the moment.

If you buy any findings from anywhere online in the UK let me know or have any advice it would be really appeciated.

If you have the time, could you answer the questions below.


1. Do you buy hand made jewellery?
2. How much on average would you pay for a hand made pendant?
3. Leather thong or chain?
4. Do you think it is important if the bail attached to the glass piece is sterling silver or would plated silver be as good?

Here are a couple of peices i have made so far.

I dont really buy much handmade jewlerry (more because I dont get the chance because theres nowhere around me to get that sort of stuff) so I dont really know what sort of pricing I would expect. I just wanted to say that I think they are really nice and should sell well. i think leather thong would be best and silver plated rather then full on silver would be perfectly acceptable!

1. Do you buy hand made jewelery? - Yes, sometimes.

2. How much on average would you pay for a hand made pendant? - Probably £5.99 - £6.99.

3. Leather thong or chain? - One of those adjustable leather ones.

4. Do you think it is important if the bail attached to the glass piece is sterling silver or would plated silver be as good? - Silver plated is just as good. Looks good, lower cost.

4. Do you think it is important if the bail attached to the glass piece is sterling silver or would plated silver be as good? Plated is fine as it still looks shiny. Hardly any of my jewellery is not plated.

both leather and a chain are just as nice, the ones up there^^ would look nice on leather i think

silver plated is just as good as sterling silver.

Oh and ebay is grrat for findings but always buy from ebay shops and you can get some really great deals =)

3. Leather thong or chain? - Leather or chain really, as long as they're both thin and not chunky.
4. Do you think it is important if the bail attached to the glass piece is sterling silver or would plated silver be as good? Urm, I probably wouldn't notice/care!

2. How much on average would you pay for a hand made pendant? No more than $30 (sorry, I'm from the US) but it would have to be pretty good for me to spend that much.
3. Leather thong or chain? I have some of each, it depends on the piece.
4. Do you think it is important if the bail attached to the glass piece is sterling silver or would plated silver be as good? Silver plated is fine normally. However if you made earrings, I'd need the posts to be sterling silver so my ears don't get irritated (silver plates are okay but if I wear them a while...)

3. Either works, though I do prefer chain.

2. How much on average would you pay for a hand made pendant? It really depends on the piece and how much I love it. I don't buy jewellery that much because I don't go out much, or I think to myself I can make it. For something like your necklaces, I'd probably expect to see them sold around 10-25 pounds, but obviously incorpate time and cost into the equation. http://www.etsy.com/ might be a good place to research how much similar items are selling for.
3. Leather thong or chain? I think the leather would look nicest with the glass pendants.
4. Do you think it is important if the bail attached to the glass piece is sterling silver or would plated silver be as good? Personally I don't mind, and I've found through personal experience that most people don't mind either. It depends on who your target market, if targeted towards older people they may prefer to have sterling silver, and pay more for it.

As for findings, I myself don't buy from any one company, I look around on Ebay shops for the cheapest, they have some good deals on there.

Depends on the pendant

I always go for sterling, since I'm allergic to anything none-sterling...

I make my own jewellery and tend to just search across the internet and shops for what I am looking for or what I need.

BeadsDirect - Is a good site.
SpoiltRotten - Is also a good site.

They do do findings, but you can probably find them cheaper - Ebay might be worth a look. =)

No, but I do make it! =)

2. How much on average would you pay for a hand made pendant?
I know from when I make them, they are worth about 10 - 15 pounds due to materials, that's without adding anything on to make any money!!

3. Leather thong or chain?
If it's a big pendant, then the leather. I do prefer chain though, but only with little dainty pendants, I don't wear big things though so I may not be the best person to answer that!!

4. Do you think it is important if the bail attached to the glass piece is sterling silver or would plated silver be as good?
Sterling silver is usually better as less people react to it - so more people can buy and wear it!!
