Cipramil (Celexa) with Buspirone
 

I was nosing around the internet and saw that the anti-anxiety medication Buspirone (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buspirone) I was prescribed should not be used with Cipramil (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Citalopram). Which I recently started taking as my psychiatrist changed my meds about a month ago.

When I see the psychiatrist to get my dosage of Cipramil increased in May I will mention this and get a new anti-anxiety drug prescribed if she agrees I shouldn't take Buspirone on Cipramil (although I've run out of Buspirone so I need that or an anti-anxiety replacement)

Does anyone know why they can't be used together??? Has anyone taken Buspirone with Cipramil and had any adverse side effects?

Sorry I have not taken that med combo before, but I did take Lamictal with Abilify. Lamictal is a mood stablizer, not an anti-depressant, sooo it made my lymph nodes all weird. They got huge and I got tonsilitis. Weird huh? So if you think it would be a problem, it's good that you're telling your doctor. Take care ~

I went off all my meds and went back on them a month or so ago. I have some Buspirone left over (probably out of date) so I won't take them and just wait it out until our appointment.
I just hope my anxiety is ok between now and then :doze:

Can you phone and speak to your psychiatrist about it? Maybe she can prescribe you something else before you see her. Take care.

To be honest, I would believe your psychiatrist over something somebody said on the internet. Your psychiatrist wouldn't have prescribed the new medication if he/she thought it would interact badly with your current meds. People have their own opinions about medications. Unless what you read was backed up by a legitimate clinical research paper which found significant problems, I'm inclined to say your doctor's most likely right. But if you're concerned, discuss it with your psych. x

I was prescribed the Buspirone when I was on another anti-depressant before I went off all my medication (and before I moved to Southend 3 years ago by different psychiatrist).

So I havent taken any in months but I need them (an anti-anxiety medication) now. I'm going to ask if its ok because of what I read otherwise I'll just ask her for a repeat prescription of the Buspirone

Ring your pharmacist and ask, they know these things.

And does the buspirone help you with the anxiety?

I looked it up and it seems to be rather a common combination, and I've not heard there's anything wrong with it, but obviously a pharmacist or your psych are the only people who can tell you for definite. If you can't wait to see a psych, a pharmacist can tell you.

In fact I did find a clinical trial which showed Buspirone can be useful for augmenting Citalopram in people who haven't responded well to SSRI's alone:

I read that sounds like it might actually really help as I have been on Citalopram before and felt it didn't help but my psych is really good and I think she'll agree with the Buspirone it will help (as it says it will help people who haven't responded well to SSRI's alone).

I'm going into the mental health centre today and will ask to pass a message to my psych or speed up the appointment to see her sooner, but either way I will make sure it is sorted out.

I'm ringing my psychs receptionist (she didn't answer so I'm trying back after her lunch)
My appointment is in April but I'll see if they can push it forward or send the prescription to my GP
